| Communication
Committee Meetings Held in FY2004 |
The aim of the
Communication Committee is to facilitate communications
between the Film Commission and filmmakers, to
allow the Film Commission to support filmmakers
efficiently and filmmakers to work smoothly with
the Film Commission. The Communication Committee
has not only dealt with its own agenda of items
for discussion but has also exchanged views with
directors, scenario writers, and cameramen. In
the coming year, the Communication Committee will
continue to assist in promoting better understanding
and more positive relations between the Film Commission
and filmmakers. |
| 1st meeting:
August 6, 2004 |
| Topics: |
Activities for the fiscal year, Tokyo International
Film Festival, TIFCOM (Tokyo International Film
& Contents Market 2004 -- Film & TV Programs --
), Bunka-cho Film Week, etc. |
The Communication Committee discussed
which members of filmmakres they would invite
for discussion forums this year. Members reported
that persons in charge at several Film Commissions
have been replaced this year, which made them
realize the difficulties of dealing with Film
Commissions operated by municipalities. (Summary
by Yasuo Nomoto, chairman) |
| 2nd meeting:
September 15, 2004 -- Expanded committee: Discussion
Forum with Art Directors |
Guests:
Mr. Katsumi Nakazawa, Mr. Yo Wada
The second meeting, an expanded committee not
only for Communication Committee members but also
for other Film Commission members, was a discussion
forum with two art designers. They clearly described
what art-related work was and talked about both
the difficulties and also the interesting aspects
of their work. They mentioned that they often
gave orders to local construction, civil engineering
or gardening companies and said that Film Commission
members should develop cooperative relationships
with these companies. As far as Film Commission
members were concerned, they expressed a desire
to be given more information about art-related
issues. Both sides described specific needs related
to shooting sites, and the meeting turned out
to be very productive. (Summary by Yasuo Nomoto,
chairman) |

Acting on a suggestion from Directors
Guild of Japan, the Communication Committee organized
a discussion forum with film producers. Producers
from Shochiku, Kadokawa Pictures and Toei (members
of the Motion Picture Producers Association of
Japan, Inc.), producers/representative directors
from Kobushi Productions, Premier International,
Film Face and Continue (members of the Japan Film
Makers Association), and three directors (members
of the Directors Guild of Japan) participated
in the discussions.
Producers, while remaining true to their position,
made comments that generally reflected their true
feelings. Film Commission members, meanwhile,
brought up specific examples as they made proposals
about insurance, and discussions were lively.
This discussion forum gave Film Commission members
a chance to meet with producers, who own final
responsibility for productions and whom they ordinarily
have few contacts with. Most people stayed on
for a post-meeting gathering to get to know each
other better. (Summary by Yasuo Nomoto, chairman)
